5 Ways To Reduce Fine Lines

1. Superfoods

A “superfood” can be described as any food rich in health-benefiting nutrients. You’d be surprised how many of these foods you may already have in your diet. Many of these have nutritional properties that appear to prevent wrinkles and boost overall health.

A study where scientists had looked at the diets of older Dutch men and women found that those men with healthy eating habits had fewer wrinkles. In the same study, women who ate more fruit had fewer wrinkles than those who ate more meat and junk foods. So an apple a day not only keeps the doctor away, but the wrinkles too...bad joke, sorry.

If you want to make sure your diet is full of these superfoods, we will drop a good list of foods you can pick up next time you do groceries:

  • Artichokes
  • Avocadoes
  • Chia seeds
  • Cinnamon
  • Egg whites
  • Ginger
  • Quinoa
  • Oatmeal
  • Salmon
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Walnuts

2. Minerals

Minerals are micronutrients found in the foods you eat that your body needs in small amounts. Two minerals that are important when it comes to skin health are Zinc and Selenium. The use of a topical cream with said mineral can help filter sunlight, promote healing, and prevent damage.

Dietary supplements containing selenium may provide the same protective effects. Keep in mind however, assuming your diet is balanced and relatively healthy, you may be getting the proper amount of these two minerals. It is best to ask your healthcare professional before taking any supplements, as they may not be necessary.

A couple foods rich in Zinc that you could incorporate into your diet include:

  • Oysters
  • Beans
  • Almonds
  • Oatmeal
  • Peas
  • Cheese

Foods containing higher amounts of selenium include:

  • Sunflower seeds
  • Yogurt
  • Spinach
  • Oatmeal
  • Bananas

.Remember, a high intake of zinc and selenium can be counterproductive to your health, so talk to a doctor before adding supplements to your diet.

3. Topical Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps create collagen in the skin. It can be found naturally in many fruits and vegetables, such as rosehips, chili peppers, guava, and kale.

Applying a topical gel containing Vitamin C can help improve the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of sun damage on the skin.

In one small 2008 study, 10 people applied a Vitamin C gel to one side of their face and a gel containing no additional ingredients to the other side. All people in the study showed less wrinkling and signs of sun damage on the side of their faces treated with vitamin C gel. The Vitamin C gel hydrated the skin, increased collagen production, and decreased inflammation.

4. Xeomin

Xeomin and Dysport are both injectable neuromodulators, meaning they can temporarily alter the nerve impulses of targeted muscles, therefore reducing or eliminating contraction-induced wrinkles.

You should notice smoother, more wrinkle-free skin within 2 to 3 days post injection, but the full effects won’t appear for about 2 weeks. It may take as long as a month for results to peak on areas with stronger muscles, particularly in men.

At full throttle, your skin will feel smoothed and lifted, with a more youthful and awakened appearance. These results tend to last 4 to 6 months, at which point the muscle movement gradually returns and the wrinkles and lines start to reappear, but often less severe than before because the muscle is being trained to relax more.

Here at Maxim Medical, we have a special every Wednesday called Wrinkle-Free Wednesdays where each unit of Xeomin/Dysport is only $10! Call us at 954-945-2909 to learn more!

5. Hydrafacial

The Hydrafacial is one of the most popular in-office facial treatments right now. One is performed every 15 seconds around the world. That stat alone is impressive, but the treatment's become the go-to facial for celebs, your co-worker, and Facebook friend from high school because it targets many of the most common skincare concerns like dryness and signs of aging with little to no side effects.

For those unfamiliar, the HydraFacial is a medical-grade resurfacing treatment that clears your pores out, plus hydrates your skin. It's offered across the country at licensed medical professional facilities, or where a certified HydraFacial esthetician is present. The four-step treatment includes cleansing, exfoliating, extracting, and hydrating the skin with serums that are infused into pores with the HydraPeel Tip, pen-like device.

It removes dead skin cells via suction, and at the same time, infuses the skin with hydrating and moisturizing serums. The serums have anti-aging and antioxidant properties and are tailored to address the specific needs of the patients.

A HydraFacial treatment can improve your skin in a ton of ways. Its many benefits include a more hydrated, bright, plump, and clear complexion. It can also improve signs of aging. The treatment reduces fine lines and wrinkles, increases firmness, evens tone, texture, and brown spots, plus reduces enlarged pores.
